"This is a moderate day hike or overnighter with a great view of the Canyon area. The trail into Cascade Lake is flat and easy, but that abruptly changes when you turn right (north) just before the lake and head for Observation Peak. From here it’s a steady, Category 2 climb to the summit. From the top you get a wonderful view of the Central Plateau area and the Hayden Valley. The trail to the summit isn’t in as good of shape as the first 2 miles into Cascade Lake, but it’s still well defi ned and easy to follow—and not as steep as it looks on the map. It gets a little rocky in places as you switchback through mostly burned forest to the summit. You don’t get much of a view on the way up, but on top you can see it all." Read more
