West Thumb Geyser Basin Professional Review and Guide
"The West Thumb Geyser Basin sits on the circular bay of West Thumb at the far west end of Yellowstone Lake. The small but diverse geyser basin is the largest basin on the shore of the lake, with a great concentration of thermal activity. A half-mile boardwalk circles the perimeter of the basin and skirts the shoreline. A quarter-mile inner loop meanders through the middle of the basin. The boardwalk passes a series of bubbling springs, which flow into the lake, and pristine, colorful pools. Highlights include Surging Spring and the electrifying blue Abyss Pool, one of the deepest pools in Yellowstone. Volcano-shaped Fishing Cone and boiling Lakeshore Geyser rise above the shallow shoreline waters of Yellowstone Lake, while Overhanging Geyser is perched over the lake to the north."
