Sweetwater Gap Trail-Sweetwater River to Tayo Park, Middle Popo Agie River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This scenic and seldom-traveled trail, the southernmost trail in the Bridger Wilderness, ascends the broad headwaters valley of Sweetwater River. The valley is flanked by massive, rubbly alpine ridges and ends in the meadows of Sweetwater Gap—the lowest-elevation pass on the crest of the range in the Bridger Wilderness.

Tayo Park, a lovely forest-fringed meadow on the Middle Popo Agie River, lies just 2 miles north of the gap within the Popo Agie Wilderness.Although this trail lacks the dramatic mountain scenery the Wind Rivers are noted for, it offers an uncrowded alternate route into the backcountry, and once you reach Tayo Park numerous other trails afford opportunities to reach alpine lakes and to scale lofty peaks. Both Sweetwater Gap and Tayo Park offer good camping areas."
