Interpretive signs are lacking, but this easy loop provides an intimate overview of several types of hydrothermal features. If thermal areas pique your interest, the hike combines nicely with the steep ramble up to the nearby Monument Geyser Basin. The shadeless route is usually passable as soon as the park opens in spring through October. Visit early in the morning to beat the tour bus crowds. Many of the paint pots’ vibrant colors get washed out after heavy precipitation.
