I started down to the lake about 15 minutes before dusk to get the 'perfect' picture of the Tetons in the setting sun. Although this is a very nice trail, mostly level with interesting and enjoyable views, I did not have the best experience on it. I decided to take a 'shortcut' that was unmarked, but looked as though it cut through the woods directly to the water's edge. It doesn't. Friends, don't ever assume something is a shortcut based on what you can see. While we were there, there was a warning about a female bear hanging out in this area, and in fact, earlier that evening, a bear had lumbered right through our campsite. So there I was, about halfway through a two-mile trail with the sun gone from the sky. I ended up running through the woods, singing at the top of my lungs, trying to get back to the campground before the last light left the sky. But after I got over my fright, I was disappointed that I didn't get to explore the trail more. It was a beautiful area, though, and hopefully you all will remember to always bring a buddy!
