Located 12 miles east and 8 miles north of Moorcroft, on the western fringe of the Bear Lodge Mountains. A day hike beneath and atop the sandstone cliffs that help create the Keyhole Reservoir on the Belle Fourche River. Volksmarch is an international walking group that helps create 10-kilometer (6-mile) excursions designed to help people discover the beauty, uniqueness and diversity of an area through the wonderful means of walking. The term “Volksmarch” literally means “a walk of the people.” Information is available from the Department of Commerce, State Parks, and Historical Sites, 16101 Yellowstone Road, Cheyenne, WY, 82002, 307-777-7695, and from the American Volkssport Association, 1001 Pat Booker Road, Suite 101, Universal City, TX, 78148, 210-659-2112. The path follows the waterline of Cottonwood Bay. It passes below trailers and a campground before gaining some solitude by circling the bay and traversing a series of wooded sandstone buttes.
