Ford the creek and follow the jeep trail to the Forest Service guard station at Pickett Creek. A bit downstream from the station find a place to ford Pickett Creek. Find a cow or elk trail and climb the embankment on the other side of the creek. Head downstream. When you have gone 0.25 mile, you will come out onto a lovely bench, especially so in mid-June to early July. Wildflowers are abundant. You get a perfect view to the east over Pitchfork Ranch and then to the ridges near Meeteetse. When the air is clear, these ridges really are purple late in the day, just as described by Western song and legend. Highlights: A great variety of scenery; sublime distant views; numerous antelope and elk.
