Nez Perce Creek

Nez Perce Creek Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike parallels Nez Perce Creek thorough Culex Basin, a beautiful valley fringed with pine forests. The basin is home to the Morning Mist Springs, a group of hot springs, thermal pools, sinter mounds and some geysers.

The hike follows the Mary Mountain Trail, an old road closed in the 1970s. The trail passes numerous hot springs and thermal areas to a bridge crossing Nez Perce Creek."

"A moderate day hike along a scenic stream meandering through a huge open valley. This is the western section of the long shuttle hike over Mary Mountain, and it’s one of the most scenic sections of that long hike. You can hike as far as you wish into Nez Perce Creek and then return. It’s about 2 miles to the ford (sorry, no bridge) and about 6 miles to Cowan Creek, where the trail starts climbing up to Mary Lake. Cowan Creek is where the Nez Perce attacked the Cowan party. Early morning on Nez Perce Creek." Read more
