Cottonwood Canyon

Cottonwood Canyon Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The gap that is Cottonwood Canyon is visible from the west as you approach the Bighorn Mountains from the Bighorn Basin. The transition from desert badlands to mountain forests can be experienced on this steep hike.

This deep and narrow canyon is a bit of a unique hike for the Bighorn Mountains. It provides a lesson in elevation as it climbs up from the desert basin to the forested slopes of the mountains. Cottonwood Creek is a mere trickle of water for much of the year, although it gains volume during spring runoff and following major rains."
