South Pass City: Lander-South Pass City Loop Professional Review and Guide
"An 81-mile paved and unpaved loop through part of the Wind River Range, past underground rivers, mountain lakes, red rock country, and old mining towns. This loop passes through very diverse terrain, from the relatively flat river valley at Lander to alpine lakes in the Wind River Range. Along the way, it passes a river that disappears into a sinkhole and then reappears down canyon and several old mining towns. In summer, the loop should be fine for any passenger vehicle. There is a lot to see on this drive, so plan to spend a full day or, ideally, make it an overnight camping trip.
Special attractions: Historic mining towns of South Pass City, Atlantic City, and Miner’s Delight, Shoshone National Forest, Sinks Canyon State Park, Frye Lake, Worthen Meadow Reservoir, Fiddlers Lake, Louis Lake, Popo Agie Wilderness, hiking, fishing, historical museums, scenic views. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
