Silas Canyon Trail-Fiddlers Lake to Silas Canyon, Island Lake

Silas Canyon Trail-Fiddlers Lake to Silas Canyon, Island Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The landscape in the southeastern reaches of the Wind Rivers, in the southern Popo Agie Wilderness, is dominated by rolling alpine plateaus exceeding 12,000 feet in elevation. The summit areas of these plateaus are unglaciated, but on their flanks glaciers carved deep cirque basins, with near-vertical headwalls, that now harbor numerous alpine lakes, referred to as “biscuit board” topography.

The short trail to Silas Canyon visits one of the classic cirques deeply gouged into the eastern flanks of Roaring Fork Mountain. Unlike its counterparts in the Bridger Wilderness, Silas Canyon offers travelers who are budgeting their time and energy the opportunity to
reach an alpine lake basin in a matter of hours, rather than spending at least two days on the trail."

Living within an hour of this trailhead I have done this hike numerous times. This is a great hike for getting into the wilderness away from crowds relatively fast. Upper lakes in the canyon have decent fishing. If time is a factor, but you want hit some high mountain lakes with good fishing and beautiful scenery, this is the hike for you.
