Mount Leidy Highlands Professional Review and Guide
"There are a number of possible hiking options in this large, undesignated wild area east of Jackson Hole. Most of the trails are gentle routes through sagebrush flats, high meadows, and rolling, partly forested hills. Aspen groves add to the appeal, especially in late September when the leaves change color. Wildlife is abundant, as this area serves as a critical migration corridor between Yellowstone National Park and the Gros Ventre and Wind River ranges to the south. Sadly, lack of wilderness protection has allowed this otherwise pristine land to be overrun by the ATV crowd, so be prepared for machine-related aggravation. A typical itinerary is to start from the Gros Ventre Road near Red Hills Campground and hike north up Slate Creek toward ruggedly scenic Mt. Leidy. Numerous other options exist, however, so use your imagination and enjoy."
