The trail is located in northwest Wyoming, between Moran Junction and Dubois. This ride follows pavement for all but the 8 miles leading from Turpin Meadows Resort to Cowboy Village Resort. In that segment, for 4 miles the route follows a gravel road and for 4 miles it follows a doubletrack road. At Moran Junction, the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route goes east on US26-287 toward Dubois. After just a few miles the route leaves the highway and goes into the Buffalo Valley. This paved road has no shoulder but the traffic is light. It is a lovely valley and the road climbs gradually, offering plenty of sightseeing opportunities.
