The heavily used trail goes north from near a large signboard and gradually wanders slightly uphill through an open lodgepole pine forest. Meadow openings and the beautifully clear Big Sandy River provide scenic interest and highlights. After a little more than 0.1 mile your trail is joined by a horse trail from the equestrian corrals near Mud Lake. At 0.6 mile is a fork and the start of your loop.
