Blacktail Butte is an imposing landmass that rises up from Antelope Flats near the middle of the Jackson Hole valley just east of Moose Junction. The 7,688-foot isolated butte is easily visible after driving a few miles north of Jackson on Highway 89. The butte rises 1 ,1 00 feet from the valley floor, extending approximately three miles long and two miles across. Glaciers moving through the valley originally sculpted the oval-shaped form from Madison limestone.
