This trip explores the lake's eastern shore, using one of three possible backcountry campsite destinations. Be aware of afternoon winds and accompanying waves, precautions for food storage in bear country. Attractions include remote paddling and bird watching (especially waterfowl). Review trip 6 for a detailed description of this route along the east shore of Yellowstone Lake. There are three backcountry campsites that you can choose from. The first site you come to is Midshore (5H1), 3.75 miles, or 1.5 to 2 hours, down the shore. It is a small, but wooded and grassy site, capable of holding two small tents. There is a long gravel beach just a few feet from camp and a nice campfire area with a beautiful view of the lake to the west, including a possible sunset if you are lucky.
