Hayden Valley Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A long day hike partly through open terrain and along the Yellowstone River; a terrific route for wildlife viewing.
Although this trail loses elevation overall, it isn’t that easy. You have to climb over several ridges leading down to the Yellowstone River, which can make this a difficult hike, especially on a hot day.

However, you would be wise to avoid the afternoon heat—as well as maximize wildlife-watching opportunities—by starting at dawn. Along with the other wildlife comes the likelihood of seeing a grizzly bear on this trail. Because of the high population of bears in the area, the National Park Service
recommends parties of four or more."
