Crevice Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A popular day hike or overnighter, especially early in the season, to the park’s namesake river. This trail is a popular starting point for longer trips along the Yellowstone River, but it also offers a taste of the river without an extended trip through Black Canyon. From the trailhead hike past one of the Blacktail Ponds, which are sometimes closed to protect nesting sandhill cranes.

Hopefully you can get a glimpse of one of the rare birds. At 0.4 mile you come to the faint but marked junction with the trail to Lava Creek and Undine Falls. Turn right (south) and continue past several fenced-off areas used for soil and wildlife studies. After a short climb, at the 0.7-mile mark stay right (south) at the junction with the Rescue Creek Trail."
