Alum Creek

Alum Creek Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A long day hike through open terrain with an excellent chance of seeing wildlife, especially bears.

This hike is ideal for avid wildlife watchers. It goes along the north edge of the wildlife-rich Hayden Valley, and you can almost always see a variety of wildlife along the trail.

The trail starts at the north edge of Hayden Valley and follows Alum Creek (which has several interesting thermal areas) through the northern edge of the valley. The trail stays in the open all the way and stays marshy throughout summer and fall, so be prepared for wet feet. Bison use this area extensively, so stay alert so that you don’t get off the official trail and onto a bison trail."
