All right, who names these lakes anyway? With Bourbon Lake and Whiskey Springs close by, someone must have been on an all-nighter when it came time to issuing names. Solitude seekers will enjoy Whiskey Island. Few visit this rugged basin, but those who do will say it’s easily worth the trip—for the aesthetics. If you’re looking for a short, interesting hike where you can really get away from everyone, then this is a good bet. It’s quiet. You can meditate. Maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of an eagle riding the updraft by the steep talus ridge. Most certainly you could tan (or burn) yourself, just laying back next to the turquoise waters.
