As a wildflower enthusiast I was thrilled to increase my "life list" by two within the first twenty minutes of this hike! (Green gentian and prairie smoke)Do not be fooled by the vastness of the open meadow at the beginning - wonders abound! The ascent into the forest is equally exciting with snow patches, a piney aroma, and lupines blooming profusely. We spent most of the afternoon at Jade Lake simply enjoying the solitude, awesome views of the Breccia Cliffs, and native cutthroats that couldn't resist the nymphs we were using. Numerous times we were startled by the sound and echoes of falling rocks from the magnificent cliffs in the distance. Be sure to have your binos with you as we were fascinated to glass the cliffs and pick an imaginary route!
