This trail climbs into an absolutely enticing section of southern Absaroka high country. While hiking, you notice that unusual, somewhat stratified layers of volcanic cliff keep bobbing into view. Upper and Lower Jade Lakes offer an easy 2.5-mile (one-way) hike that places you both directly under those naked cliffs and beside emerald lakes that reflect the majesty of the surrounding country. Jade, by the way, is Wyoming’s official state stone. Highlights: A short hike to two pretty, high-country lakes set beneath towering cliffs; good fishing.
