Black Mountain Lookout, Trail 011 Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"As to be expected from a hike to a lookout tower, this trail goes up, up, and more up. Hikers gain nearly 1,300 feet elevation in a mere 1.2 miles. The rocky crags at the top of Black Mountain are neat, and the stunning panoramic views will occupy you for long enough to catch your breath before the return trip down, down, and more down.

From the end of the road to the lookout tower is probably a half a mile as the crow flies. But since you aren’t a crow, the hike is about 1.2 miles each way. You’ll gain 1,269 feet elevation, but the bright side is it’s downhill on the way back."

The hardest short hike I have ever done. Just had to keep pushing because the views at the top are worth it. It does get narrow and steep, so please leash your dogs.
