Located in the high lakes area of the Beartooth Mountains, this extremely scenic hike stays close to the west shores of both Island Lake and Night Lake. The alpine lakes sit at an elevation of 9,500 feet, southwest of the Beartooth Plateau, and are surrounded by snowy peaks. Island Lake encompasses more than 1 40 acres and contains several islands. Near the trailhead is a crossing of Little Bear Creek. This trail is the beginning of the Beartooth Highlakes Trail, which leads 7 miles northwest to Native Lake.
