Snowshoe - Silver Creek Ski Resort Professional Review and Guide
"Decades after the last logging outfits left behind the highlands of Pocahontas County’s Cheat Mountain, Snowshoe was conceived when Dr. Thomas Brigham and his crew examined these snow-filled mountaintops of maple, cherry, and red spruce hardwoods. They broke ground in 1973 by cutting nine trails and slinging up three chair lifts on the 4,800-foot-high summit of Cheat Mountain. Today, with an annual visitor count that ranks in the top five percent of North American ski areas, Snowshoe Mountain Resort is the Mid-Atlantic’s premiere ski destination.
The virtual ski town comprises two ski areas: Snowshoe and Silver Creek, with a combined 57 runs, same-day reciprocal lift ticket, and shuttle buses servicing both facilities. Snowshoe is the bigger of the two and owns the Mid-Atlantic’s biggest vertical drop of 1,500 feet. Just across the mountain is Silver Creek, which caters primarily to families and developing skiers but also is home to an outstanding snowboard terrain park and snowtubing lanes. This eTrail contains a thorough description of the resort including driving directions, mountain statistics, trail profiles, extensive lodging & dining information, travel tips, and much more."
