This is the arguably most fascinating 1.2 miles of trailway at New River Gorge. Start near the Grandview Visitor Center (They don’t call it Grandview for nothin’!) and stroll out to the Main Overlook. It provides a breathtaking panorama of the canyon below. From there, join the rocky and challenging Castle Rock Trail, working your way along the base of a dramatic cliff line in a geological wonderland, with boulders, bluffs, and overhangs. Climb back to the rim, and then pass more developed overlooks, each illustrating the case for preserving this special slice of the Mountain State. Be apprised that though the hike is short, the Castle Rock Trail is challenging, with irregular footing.
