North Bend Rail-Trail

North Bend Rail-Trail Professional Review and Guide

"West Virginia’s showcase trail, the North Bend Rail Trail passes through spectacular wilderness settings and rural farmland, with several stops in small towns where artists fashion handblown glass.

Wildlife proliferates, including beavers, deer, chipmunks, and, in spring and summer, hosts of songbirds. Surface: Four types of surface, including the smooth, crushed limestone finish of the model sections, well-packed dirt and small gravel, midsize gravel, and rough and unfinished."

This is a review of the 1st ten miles. After about a mile of riding past some McMansions, the scenery improves with farm land, river bottom, and trees. The trail is well maintained with great bridges. I've done the trail twice, and I've seen deer both times. This is a great trail for after work riding, training, casual riding, or riding with non-pros. You really get out and away from things, but aren't ever really out of help's reach if you need it. Its really flat and really straight, so if your looking for some jumps or extreme biking, look else where.
I do not want to join .Please see that my credit card is not billed. Thank You Doug Coates
Spent a few days on parts of this trail with my family. We stayed in the North Bend state park. Access to the trail from the camp ground was great. Easy riding for my 7 year old. The actual trail was also a fun ride. I would like to see more rest stops along the trail though. I give this trail a 9 out of 10.
Both of the other Reviews here are WAY out of Date. This Trail is DONE and it is Nice for a Rail Trail. Do Not get too excited about North Bend State Park. It is Very Average and the Geese are annoying.
The trail is in the best shape it has ever been in (excluding an eight mile section in Doddridge County west of West Union). Long overdue, the 11 mile segment acquired along the most western portion is currently being graded and surfaced. North Bend State Park will have a 1,200 acre expansion as a result of a recently completed Dam project that will link to the rail-trail. Rest areas, and mile&place markers are posted, though interpretive information is not. This is the 'trail of tunnels' and unique in many respects.
