Virgin Hemlock Trail - Coopers Rock State Forest

Virgin Hemlock Trail - Coopers Rock State Forest Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Coopers Rock State Forest is a vortex of outdoor adventure possibilities. Just 20 minutes from Morgantown (home of West Virginia University) Coopers Rock draws everyone from picnickers to “drive by” hikers from I-68 to rock climbers to photographers snapping pictures of the Cheat River valley. The section of forest north of I-68 sees significantly less traffic than the southern section, so much so that you might get the Virgin Hemlock Trail to yourself.

Get ready to crane your neck upward as you gaze at a stand of mature hemlocks along this loop. The trail takes you along the rhododendron- choked Little Laurel Run, through stands of mountain laurel, and on singletrack trail through a forest floor carpeted in ferns. When you’re done, head back to Motown where you can enjoy an après-hike brew or meal."

This is a wonderful trail. Very pretty and secluded. This is well worth the effort.
