Beartown Boardwalk

Beartown Boardwalk Professional Review and Guide

"A short hike on a boardwalk through small rock crevices covered with lush greenery. Beartown State Park is a small 110-acre park located near Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park. This wild and remote hilltop contains huge rocks and boulders strewn about a dense forest floor. Wind and rain have eroded the deep crevices and walls of rock in an eerie fashion, almost as though they had been carved with a special purpose in mind. Some of the pockets carved out of the rocks are very small, others are large enough to hold a grown man.

Beartown’s name comes from the local legend that claims that colonies of black bear once inhabited the house-sized stone formations that form the maze of this natural area. Also, the many deep, narrow crevices were formed in a somewhat regular crisscross pattern and appear from above like streets of a small town. A boardwalk with interpretive signs directs visitors through this unique park. A 150-foot accessible walk also allows wheelchair users to enter one of the major crevasses of the park. Special attractions: Beautiful fern- and tree-covered rock formations."

Really nice "stroll". The rocks, the boardwalk, and the dark forest make for a enjoyable hour or so.
