Trout Pond

Trout Pond Professional Review and Guide

"Trout Pond is West Virginia’s only natural lake. Some man-made amenities add to the setting.

Trout Pond Campground is situated on a mountain flat in a pretty dry forest of oak, hickory, dogwood, anda few pine trees. Many small trees and brush give the campground a feeling of being gently set into the woods as opposed to bulldozing a campground area, laying out campsites, then planting a few trees to make the camping area look like it is in a forest. Some campgrounds are built this way. Not this one. Drive into the loop. The first ten sites are on both sides of the road and have electricity.

Campsites are very well delineated and are bordered with landscaping timbers to keep the natural and camping areas separate. Pass the first of three modern bathhouses with full facilities. The campground is new, but it has old-fashioned fire rings of stone that have been cemented together for that rustic look and they have a small circular grate attached on the edge to a post, making the grate vertically adjustable for cooking. The paved pull-ins and campground roads cut down on the dust. The road splits and the electric sites end, keeping the RVs in their own part of the campground."
