Blue Bend Loop Trail Professional Reviews and Guides

"This loop takes place in the Monongahela’s southeastern corner, at Blue Bend Recreation Area. Named for a nearby alluring swimming hole along Anthony Creek, Blue Bend also features two nice campgrounds and picnic areas in addition to the wonderful loop hike described here. The Blue Bend Trail enters Big Draft Wilderness, cruises along clear-and-pretty Anthony Creek, then climbs Round Mountain, where a trio of vistas awaits.

This hike explores a lower, drier habitat than much of the Monongahela National Forest and is almost entirely within the Big Draft Wilderness, coming in at 5,144 acres. Established in 2009, it is the smallest federally designated wilderness in West Virginia, yet contains this fine loop, allowing you to explore the heart of it. If you can, plan to camp and swim at this special parcel of the Monongahela National Forest, in addition to making this excellent circuit."
