This is one of my favorite trails because it is close to home. I ride it alot and it is always clean and never crowded so you can ride as fast as you want. I ride from the trailhead across from the Rite aid store in Shinnston and go to the bridge over the west fork in Fairmont and back usually in three hours and never had any problems with dogs or people. The river helps keep it cool and there is plenty of shady sections also. I enjoy the old coal signs in the woods at the edge of the trail, a lot of the old train bedway is there and some ruins of the waterstorage for the trains remains there is even an old coal mine in the side of the hill you can hike up to beside an old work building around mile marker 8 in the curve of the river. take a lunch and eat at the bridge and return for a nice day out. no strain as the trail is usually dry and packed good but it can get spongy if wet and that is a workout with fat tires.
