Laurel River Trail South

Laurel River Trail South Professional Review and Guide

"A prime backpack area with loops of any size when the trail system is combined with the Middle Mountain Road. The Laurel Fork South is the southern half of the Laurel Fork Wilderness Complex. Middle Mountain forms the western boundary of the wilderness, while Rich Mountain forms the eastern boundary. Between these two high ridges runs the fast flowing Laurel Fork.

This clear running river is the centerpiece of this masterpiece of nature. Hardworking beavers have altered the upper portion of the river basin significantly. Tall grasses thrive in the former backwaters of their old dams. Special attractions: A beautiful hike along the fast-flowing Laurel Fork River, beaver dams, and wide-open glades."
