Plantation Professional Review and Guide

"This is the Canaan Valley region’s most famous single track. From Plantation Trail you can make any number of loops with the trails that cross and branch off.

Described here is the entire length of Plantation, a difficult, rocky, technical and beautiful ride with the return on the loop road. Highlights include technical trails with rocks and slippery roots, bogs, stream crossings, and open fern-filled woods."

Word has it, that this is the best trail in this region, so why am I giving it just 3 stars? First of all, this trail is just under 20 miles, but 11 miles of that is on road. The 9 miles of singletrack is fantastic, the trail is well marked and maintained. The trail is level, so it is definitely not a fast one, it is very bumpy, and although it is not technical trail, it is a technical ride, by this I mean that even on the straight trail, you always have to watch your every move otherwise this trail will chew your bike to pieces. This trail can be done both directions. I started on State RD 32, but if I was to do this trail again, I would probably start on FS 13, this way, you have a much shorter ride on a road at the end of the trail. allow 3-4 hours If you are lucky to have someone shuttle you, I would definitely suggest just doing the 9 mile singletrack, allow for 2 hours. If you do not have a shuttle, I would even recommend doing this trail as an "Out & Back", that would mean 18 miles of singletrack, rather than 11 miles on roads. Just the singletrack I would rate it 4.5 star. Ride Safe Rip3d www.mountainbikemayhem.com
