Dolly Sods North Circuit - Dolly Sods Wilderness

Dolly Sods North Circuit - Dolly Sods Wilderness Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"In truth, the trails in Dolly Sods North can be eroded and muddy, and the seemingly relentless wind can just about knock you off your feet. But it won’t be able to knock the smile off your face.

This is because of the vistapalooza that is Dolly Sods North, from the sweeping views as far as the distant Shenandoah Mountains to the east to the nearby Canaan Valley to the west, and everything you’ll encounter in between, including A-list wildlife such as black bears and bald eagles. August is a great time for blueberry picking."

I think the term, "will make a fit hiker sweat in the dead of winter" sums up this hike the best.

This hike is very difficult. You need to be in tip top shape to go up the 2000 feet, which occurs under a mile, and the rock hopping throughout the upper plains. Of course these plains are not like the midwestern plains with grass. These are plains filled with trees and spiky foliage and rocks; lots of rocks.

However, the reward of the views almost outbalance the pain of the hike... almost.
