Canaan/Blackwater Cross-Country Hike & Ski Trail II (Davis Trail) Professional Review and Guide
"Curtained by green rhododendrons and mountain laurel, this short trail travels most of its length beside a chattering, stone-speckled stream.
The first half mile is nearly flat, then begins a gradual climb up Canaan Mountain. Water in the trail is frequent here; hiking boots are recommended.
Running through pretty rhododendron woods, Engine Run stream is named for a narrow-gauge engine that, according to local lore, once tumbled into it. Now the stream is the hallmark of this beautiful rail-trail, an easy mountain path ambling up Canaan Mountain in Blackwater Falls State Park and Monongahela National Forest. It’s great for hikers and bikers both, although bikers should have a bit of technical expertise to negotiate the roots and rocks that speckle the trail."
