Red Ash via Southside Trail

Red Ash via Southside Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike traces the old Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad from the abandoned mining town of Brooklyn along a scenic stretch of the New River to end at the also-abandoned mining town of Red Ash. You can see relics of Red Ash, the site of a 1900 mining disaster that killed forty-six men. Mother Nature’s hand has restored the area to its natural splendor, and you can revel in the tall trees rising on bluff-pocked hillsides as well as the roaring rapids of the New River."
