Babcock State Park

Babcock State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Stay at Babcock and raft the wild rapids of the lower New River Gorge.

Babcock is one of West Virginia’s first state parks. It was inaugurated July 1, 1937. The allure of this part of the Appalachian Plateau made it a logical choice. The Civilian Conservation Corps developed the park, and later other amenities of the lower were added. The state was right in picking this locale, but little did they know that another primary attraction would develop very nearby. This attraction is the rafting on the lower New River Gorge. Some of the most
exciting and certainly most scenic rafting in the country is on the New River."
