Leith Run Recreation Area Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Leith Run Recreation Area gets an awful lot of use, and it’s no wonder. There’s a lot to do. Located on the banks of the Ohio River, this is, for starters, the place to see wetland wildlife. Two observation decks, one offering a panoramic view of the Ohio River and the other overlooking the backwaters of Leith Run, give visitors the opportunity to see a great variety of birds. There’s some very good fishing to be had, too. Anglers can fish the Ohio River from shore or launch a canoe or small boat at a ramp that accesses the Willow Island pool. Larger boats can get on the water at the Frontier boat ramp. Waiting to be caught are largemouth, smallmouth, spotted and white bass, channel and flathead catfish, crappies, saugers, bluegills, walleyes, and freshwater drum. Many of those same species can also be caught in a backwater estuary that’s accessible from a paved walkway. Accessible piers front both the river and the estuary."
