"This old-time, traditional campground boasts a variety of nearby forest attractions. Since it is open year-round, it can be is open year-round a destination on milder days during the cooler months. Hikers and anglers enjoy the little-used gem of the East and boasts a variety Fork Trail, which starts at the campground.

Other natural nearby attractions are Lake Buffalo, also with hiking and fishing opportunities, and Gaudineer Scenic Area, attractions. which features an old-growth spruce stand. The Civil War–era Cheat Summit Fort also merits a visit. Pull off West Virginia 28 and travel the gravel road to Island Campground."
