Mill Creek Hopewell Road to the New River

Mill Creek: Hopewell Road to the New River Professional Review and Guide

"The upper section of this delightful, scenic winter run is an excellent warm-up for the craziness that lies below Ansted. From Ansted down, Mill Creek is a short run with a split personality. There is a falls midway down. From Ansted to the falls is mostly Class 4 with a couple of Class-5 drops. The falls is a clean shot into a deep pool. The lower run is considerably more difficult, with several Class-5 and -6 rapids. Several rapids are very difficult and almost everyone portages something.

Mill Creek is a boulder-choked, severe-drop type of creek. Of the more memorable rapids was the falls (20 foot), which has an extremely deep pool (containing a railroad car). We also named one triple drop. This one has 2, 6-foot drops terminating in an 8-10-foot drop, which we called Dry Falls."
