Rib Falls Challenge Professional Review and Guide
"In the center of Wisconsin you will find a beautiful area of rolling plains, hills, and a couple geographic wonders. First is Rib Mountain, now the home of Granite Peak Ski Area. To the east of this magnificent rock formation, which has withstood millions of years of glacial movement and floods, is a town whose name means “far away.” As the route departs from this town on the Wisconsin River, it gradually climbs the ridge.
Rolling past plots of ginseng, you soon arrive in another river town that was named by Indians for a set of falls. Farther east visit a town “halfway to the North Pole and halfway around the Western Hemisphere” and join the 45 x 90 Club—it’s one of only four such spots on the globe. Circling through rolling farmland, the ride turns north and passes through a village that settlers felt had similar topography to Athens, Greece. As you turn back to the east, you pass a crossroads settlement named for the moonshine sold there during the Prohibition era. Now heading south, ride down a rolling lane back to Wausau."
