Hartman Creek State Park

Hartman Creek State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Hartman Creek State Park is an excellent location for a weekend of family camping and mountain bike riding. The trails found throughout the park are extensive, covering the full width of the park’s property and skirting the edges of two of its lakes. All in all, just over 8 miles of trails are open to mountain bikers, all of which can easily be tackled by beginners not ready to explore the more technical rides in the book or families who want to bike together in this beautiful forest setting.

The path is wide throughout, allowing riders to ride two abreast or at least to keep away from dense vegetation at the edges of the path at the peak of summer. The trails run right out of the campground on both ends, one set leading to Hartman Lake, the other to Allen Lake and beyond. The riding offers beginners a taste of the glaciated terrain that in other areas of Wisconsin is much more difficult. Here, the glaciers sheared the top of the land, flattening it into a series of small, rolling hills by scraping across it, receding, and then pushing forward time after time. The rich soil left behind is a perfect bed for thick, heavy woods."
