Sidie Hollow County Park Campgrounds Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Do you ever get to the point where if you get in one more traffic jam, see one more TV commercial, get one more unsolicited email, or hear one more coworker say one more stupid thing that you are going to tear your hair out? Then it’s time for a tent-camping trip. Time to get away from the rush, rush, rush madness of our modern era. And I have the place for you—somewhere that exudes relaxation, somewhere tucked away in the hills of southwestern Wisconsin. Even if you were from the area, you might not even know it was there. It is called Sidie Hollow. Some destinations are so packed with paths to walk, rivers to float, rail-trails to pedal, and natural things to see that you feel compelled to do them. This “go there, do that” pressure sometimes kills the relaxing intent of a camping trip. There is no pressure at Sidie Hollow.

It is scenic for sure—and you can fish, float your canoe around the lake, and maybe walk in the valley, but all that seems an afterthought to just kicking back and watching the sun move across the sky. Or maybe taking a nap in the lounge chair."

I actually stumbled into this park looking for a different hike (search Wildcat Mound) and didn't regret doing so at all. This park features higher elevations than I ever would have expected with expansive views from their lookout area, and has a variety of interesting sights such as water-worn rock formations at the top of huge hills. The trails here are well marked and do a good job of exposing the hiker to the variety of sights available in the area without being too long. Be aware though that the terrain is rather steep and you will be hiking up and down it constantly. I cannot attest to the quality of the camp sites as I did not stay the night, but they looked pretty standard for a state park (which isn't a bad thing.) There is a group camp area marked on the park map which looked more interesting as it was set off far from everything else, but I didn't get a chance to go check it out. Overall a very nice place to spend a day or two.
