Richard Bong State Recreation Area Blue Trail

Richard Bong State Recreation Area: Blue Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Take a long stroll through one of the area’s most popular state park retreats. Trails pass through the largest managed grassland in this corner of the state and it’s just awash with wildflowers.

This 4,515-acre state park is named for Wisconsin native and World War II flying ace, Major Richard I. Bong. Activities range from hiking and swimming to model airplane flying and hunting. The trail system collectively totals over 41 miles and hiking trails are color-coded. This is the largest managed grassland in southeastern Wisconsin and if you enjoy wildflowers, this is a hotspot for them. Benches are spread intermittently throughout."

If you're looking for something fairly quick, and you're in the area, I recommend this trail. You're taken around Wolf lake where you get a wide variety of scenery changes from wooded lands to prairies. It's a nice walk/hike on mostly flat land.
