Red Pine Trail

Red Pine Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Where do old sand dunes go? Inland is the answer. They are replaced by new dunes. Gradually, grass and trees take hold on the old slopes. As the years pass, there is little to show they were ever dunes except for telltale ridges that run parallel to the beach. You’ll ski over old wooded dunes on the Red Pine Trail.

Starting at the Nature Center (too bad nothing is open in winter) you go west on a flat two-way trail across County Highway O. A right turn puts you on the one-way counterclockwise loop. Periodic YOU ARE HERE map signs give confidence. Soon you are up on a dune ridge, gliding north through a beautiful stand of birch and hemlock. Surface quality: Groomed periodically, double tracked. Fees: yes."
