A Tale of Two Rivers

A Tale of Two Rivers Professional Review and Guide

"Two Rivers is a holdover from the days when Lake Michigan was considered a major fishery and the economies of many of the shoreline communities depended on the bounty of this freshwater sea. The economy of Two Rivers is much more diverse these days, although it still depends heavily on commercial fishing, particularly through a thriving deepwater-charter industry.

The Rogers Street Fishing Village on Jackson Street pays homage to Two Rivers' maritime past with a wide range of exhibits. Of course, bicyclists might be more interested in the fact that Two Rivers claims to be the birthplace of the ice-cream sundae, created here in 1881 and sold then only on Sundays. Berners Ice Cream Parlor, operated by the Two Rivers Historical Society in the restored Washington House on Jefferson Street, will sell you an old-time sundae any day of the week. Things to see: Two Rivers, Rogers Street Historic Fishing Village, Berners Ice Cream Parlor, Nashota Park, Point Beach State Forest, East Twin River."
