Meqoun, Thiensville and Cedarburg Professional Review and Guide

"Large, oak-shaded homes and vast, landscaped lawns—with all the appropriate bayberry and rosebush adornment—generally mark this area, which is barely a twenty-minute drive north of downtown Milwaukee via I–43. Out here you certainly know you are in the otherworldly ’burbs. Even some birdbaths appear to be Olympic-size whirlpool hot tubs, complete with verandas. Preferring to skip the rush of the interstate, you can also take any of a number of surface streets and country trunk routes into the city’s near-northern hinterland. State highways 181, 57, and 167 are other major routes through the region. Subsequently, this part of Ozaukee County is easy to reach for the avid day-tripper seeking new adventures.

The proximity of Mequon-Thiensville and Cedarburg makes it a logical choice for a first stop on a leisurely drive north of Milwaukee. Of course, if you travel too far to the east, bring flippers. The rolling, green waters of Lake Michigan lap against Mequon’s cliffside eastern border. This eTrail from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of Milwaukee. Each Day Trip includes destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping."
