Kohler-Andrae State Park—Dunes Cordwalk

Kohler-Andrae State Park—Dunes Cordwalk Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Set along a beautiful sandy beach on Lake Michigan, this state park protects a fragile ecosystem set among sand dunes. A cordwalk traverses the grass-covered rolling sands and offers views of the lake and rare plant species. The glaciers of the Wisconsin Glacial Episode carved out the basin of what is now
Lake Michigan, depositing fine sand from its grinding work.

When the waters of the previous glacial lake receded, the beaches emerged and winds created the dunes we see today. This park is actually the combination of two state parks, each named for a figure of Wisconsin industry whose families or companies donated land for their creation."
