Summit Rock / Echo Canyon Trails Professional Review and Guide

"The Summit Rock and Echo Canyon Trails pack a lot of gorgeous scenery into a very short loop. That doesn’t mean it won’t be difficult, only that it will be worth the effort. Interstate is one of the most stunning and geologically significant parks in the state. It was here that torrents of backed-up glacial meltwater met a wall of tough volcanic basalt.

The mayhem that followed carved the Dalles, the deep river gorge framed by 80-foot cliffs. You will scale one of them. Summit Rock is the highest point on the bluffs, and the view of the gorge is grand. Surface quality: Ungroomed, snowshoer and hiker packed. Fees: yes."

Summit, Echo Canyon, and River Bluff trails. Nice workout. Your legs really get burning. I brought my girls there today with my six year old leading the way with me watching the trail in front of her very closely, some spots dad had to lead the way. These trails have great rock formations making awesome natural staircasings which can be slippery when wet or frozen which was the case today. Beautiful cliffs cutting a great view of the ST.CROIX RIVER VALLEY. This place you could easily spend a week-end exploring around there are many trails connecting and inter-looping up and down these hills. Rock climbers would have a blast. I remember being a rebel teenager and jumping off the 50-70 foot cliffs into the St. Croix it was prohibited then and according to the sign it still is! Awesome views, great trails, and there is lake back in there.(Lake O' the Dalles) I will go back this summer for sure.
